I’m trying to change my routine a little at the moment, particularly in the way I’m starting my day. Let’s be honest, the world is fuller than normal of bleak, hard news stories. My habit of starting my day by doing the rounds of my social media, catching up on what had happened overnight has been a surefire way to ensure that the day started stressfully.
Not reading all the tweets and Facebook updates within a few minutes of waking up doesn’t make them go away. It doesn’t mean they aren’t there, and it doesn’t mean I won’t read them and digest them and act on what I can later in the day. What it does mean is that I’m not making my brain go from asleep to digesting whatever new horrors there are all in the matter of minutes.
Instead, at the moment, I’m enjoying a cup of tea while I watch a couple of vlogs. I’d love to be able to just chill with the cuppa, but that’s not me (or not at the moment anyway). Vlogs seem like a nice compromise, the ones I subscribe to bring me great joy and they’re the right sort of entertaining for first thing in the morning.
It’s only been a few days so I can’t see whether it’s making any huge difference to my days, but if nothing else it’s helping me catch up with the vlogs I’m behind on watching!
