I’m going to try my hand at the Friday Photos challenge again this year. The group description from Flickr:
A Flickr group posting photos every week but with a bit of a thematic challenge. The theme for the week will be posted here in discussions every Saturday throughout the year. Photos can then be posted up to and including the following Friday. Please encourage people to join, we’re a friendly bunch and all love looking at each other’s photos.
I haven’t had much success completing photo challenges before, I usually end up making it a few weeks in before forgetting for a couple of days and then giving up. I’m hoping that the weekly theme will help to jog my memory and get me through ’til the end of the year.
Week 1′s theme is Socks. I wanted to try and think of something a little imaginative but failed, so here are my 3 pictures for the theme.

The Olympic Torch is in Wales at the moment on its journey around the UK. It arrived in Aberystwyth yesterday evening and this morning headed off on its way to Bangor where it is spending tonight. I live a little north of Aberystwyth so it was wonderful this morning to see the torch taking the route I use every time I go into town. I went to see the torch in Tre-Taliesin, watching its final leg before it was transported by coach to Machynlleth.

It was very quiet where I watched it compared with some of the images I’ve seen, but for me it was no less impressive. I’ve been looking forward to the Olympics coming to the UK for ages now, and seeing the torch for real was I think the thing that really brought it home to me that it’s really happening. I loved as well knowing that my parents and some friends have already watched the torch go past, and more family members and friends will see it in the weeks to come – we’re all scattered across England and Wales, but we’re all sharing this experience.

I’ve had such a lovely day today. By many peoples’ standards it’s probably been pretty quiet but it’s been filled with so many things that have made me happy.
It started off with a double episode of The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes which I’m currently watching to help stave off my Avengers Assemble obsession (though it’s just over a week until my chance to see it for a fourth time). This episode saw my new favourite Hawkeye getting to do stuff so it was a welcome surprise.
Then there was lots and lots of writing. I have failed miserably over the last few months to do any writing, but now I’m in that quiet period after all my uni work’s done and before I head back to my parents for the summer break I’m trying to get back into the swing of things. Over the last couple of days I was starting to make headway and then today something clicked into place and I managed just under 5,500 words and passed the 10,000 overall words mark which was really pleasing.
In one of my breaks between writing spells I took my camera out into the garden to take a few photos of the beautiful clematises (clematii?) and spotted the odd insect flying around so took the chance to have a go at taking some macro pictures of things that are actually alive. This is one of them, it links to the set on my Flickr.
Whilst I was writing I tried a new singer on for size, I’ve been listening to a lot of Miranda Lambert in the last couple of weeks after falling in love with Gunpowder and Lead on American Idol. I looked to see who was doing the harmonies on her track Better In The Long Run and discovered it was her husband, fellow country star Blake Shelton. I’ve listened to a couple of his albums today and really liked what I heard, including this country take on Michael Bublé’s Home that features Lambert on harmonies.
On top of all of these things it was sunny, though nowhere near as hot as most of the UK which was pleasing, and this afternoon finished with me reading a great book in the garden with tea and bara brith. So many little things all pulling together to leave me feeling completely happy and content with the day.

A double post again this week because I’m a bit rubbish at remembering these things. The theme for the weekly photo in week 19 was Windows, I took a photo of the fabulous window display at the launch for Tanya Byrne’s excellent debut novel Heart Shaped Bruise. The theme for week 20 was Water, I had two pictures for this, one of my teabags which are my favourite thing to add to water, and one of a drop of water about to fall from a tap – I tried very hard to photograph is mid fall but never managed to time it quite right.

Argh I can’t believe I haven’t posted a single thing here in a fortnight. I’ve been working pretty flat out on assignments over the last couple of weeks, I’m currently finishing the 5th one I’ll submit in the space of a fortnight so there hasn’t been a huge amount of brainspace left for blogging. But I wrote a load of posts on the train yesterday so things should get back to usual. Or maybe even better than usual.
So, the theme for the weekly photo in week 17 was Wildlife, I was a bit short of real living wildlife so I took pictures of the wildlife filled painting I see every time I open my bedroom door, and a penguin adorned cover of one of the many wildlife journals we have at work. The theme for week 18 was Clouds, I grabbed a quick snap of the clouds on Monday in case we didn’t have any more blue skies through the week and was surprised at how effective the picture was.

The theme for the weekly photo was Rainbow so I took the opportunity to treat myself to some jelly beans. I’d planned to make a rainbow out of them but as you can see the colours weren’t very evenly distributed in the pack so I just had to make the best job I could. And then eat them all.

Anyone who can count will see that I’ve managed to fail my Photo a Day challenge. I missed a couple of days in week 14 for no good reason other than I completely forgot to take a photo. Hopefully I won’t forget again, but we’re not even close to the halfway stage so there’s every chance I will.
The theme for the weekly photo in week 14 was Games, I submitted two photos for this – one of some of the tiny Doctor Who game pieces I own (amongst other bits of Doctor Who memorabilia) and one of the many wooden puzzles that live in my parents’ house. The theme for week 15 was Easter, I managed to submit the full three pictures for this theme – a hot cross bun, the way I spent my Easter evening, and an eggcup that I received this year.
